Lathrop Homes Evaluation and Reuse Study
Evaluation and Reuse Study for 35-acre Chicago Housing Authority Complex

Habitat Company, LLC retained MIA for an evaluation and reuse study of Chicago Housing Authority’s Lathrop Homes. The study, based on the rehabilitation of prototype buildings, included floor plans, elevations and site improvements, and preparation of site development plans and cost estimates for three redevelopment scenarios.

PHASE 1
Multi-year, multi-phase revitalization
Related Midwest, partnering with the CHA and other Chicago-area developers, is leading the revitalization of the historic Lathrop Homes. MIA is providing services for the exterior envelope rehabilitation and repair of 16 buildings in Phase 1. Julia C. Lathrop Homes, developed by the WPA and opened in 1938, consists of a 35-acre campus of two-story row houses and three and four-story apartment blocks designed by prominent architects on a site designed by landscape architect Jens Jensen. The complex is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
