Preservation Consultant for Restoration of Historic Terra cotta Facades
As consultant to FGM Architects for the Exterior Renovation of BEQs: Buildings 26 & 27 at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL, MIA was responsible for complete hands-on evaluation of exterior facades, including terra cotta and brick, parapet reconstruction, and window repair/replacement options. Buildings No. 26 and 27 were designed in the early 20th century with open multi-use spaces for hammock sleeping and day activities to simulate life aboard ship. These functional buildings have been reused for a variety of purposes including dormitory housing and office space. The four matched buildings are in the Great Lakes National Register District. Received the AIA, Northeast Illinois Chapter 1997 Excellence in Architecture Award.
